Yarmouth casino bidders step up battle

The race to present plans for a new multi-million pound casino in the coastal region of Great Yarmouth is heating up, with several developers set to reveal their projects.
The Marina Centre site is the location of choice for many such schemes, with those proposed thought to include four-star hotels and huge auditoriums for separate conferences and events.
Elsewhere in the area, developer Albert Jones is on the verge of announcing plans for an entertainment-casino resort to be built near the Pleasure Beach theme park, which Mr Jones also owns.
Such developments are being made possible by the fact that Yarmouth may well receive one of the eight large casino licences to be awarded by the government in January 2007. A separate casino is also being considered by local officials as a way to spur on the town's efforts at regeneration.
Earlier in the year Great Yarmouth failed in its bid to host the one super-casino that is set to be built in the UK, with the government announcing an eight-town shortlist that includes Cardiff, Blackpool and Glasgow. A final decision is expected to be made in December.
