Queen takes in Casino Royale

2006-11-15 15:03:36

The new James Bond film based in and around a lavish casino held its premiere in London last night, with the Queen and a host of stars in attendance.

The royal performance saw the monarch meet the film's star, Daniel Craig. Sir Elton John was among the other famous names in attendance.

Casino Royale, in which new Bond Craig must attempt to stop villain Le Chiffre from swindling a VIP casino, is released in theaters later this week.

Craig, whose selection as Pierce Brosnan's replacement attracted criticism from numerous fans and much of the media, spent an hour signing autographs in the rain for fans.

The new film is said to largely stick to the plot of Ian Fleming's first novel, with the main exception being that the book's centrepiece, a game of baccarat between Bond and Le Chiffre, has been changed to No Limit Texas Hold'em Poker.

Despite the previous criticism, both the film and Craig have been praised by early media reports that followed exclusive screenings of Casino Royale early last week.
