Blackpool casino hosts Northern Open

One of the UK's biggest tournaments has taken place at Blackpool's Grosvenor casino, as the Northern Open excited players and spectators alike for another year.
Featuring sold-out side events and a £1,000 buy-in main event, the tournament saw over 150 players battle it out for the overall crown and £48,900 first prize.
By the end of day one the field had been cut to just 37, as over 100 players succumbed to the intensive action. As the field began to thin out even further, one name and two players remained at the top.
Heads up play featured these two players &ndash Chaz Chattha and Sunny Chattha, as the casino hosted the unusual situation of two brothers playing against one another in a major UK event. The end of the night saw Sunny Chattha triumphing and collecting the title and a large proportion of the tournament's £163,000 prize pot.
The Grosvenor casino applied for expansion to the local county council earlier this year, as it looked to cash in on the growing success of gambling within the UK &ndash a rise fuelled by increasingly sophisticated online gambling sites.
