Isle of Man considers casino proposals

2006-12-11 16:04:57

A Glasgow artist has suggested a radical scheme for the Isle of Man that would see it transformed into a gambler's paradise, it has been revealed.

Amanda Currie's plan envisages a five-casino island that would be linked via high-speed, first-class transport links, the Isle of Man Examiner reports.

The newspaper reveals that Ms Currie, an artist from Glasgow whose previous work has seen her involved in such initiatives as the regeneration of Glasgow's Gorbals, has written to the chairman of the famous Las Vegas Sands company to outline her proposals.

Las Vegas Sands has been at the forefront of casino development in emerging regions of late, and was awarded the first licence to operate a casino in Singapore earlier this year.

Meanwhile, other UK super casino plans are currently under consideration, with Bath's 750 square metre casino this week being subject to public consultation. An exhibition of the plans is being held in the city library this week.
