Voters favour Blackpool supercasino

A day ahead of the long-awaited decision regarding which city in the UK will be the recipient of the country's only supercasino, a poll of over 1,000 people has named Blackpool as the voters' favourite.
The poll was carried out for the city of Blackpool, but featured people from across the country.
Many had thought that the Millennium Dome was set to receive the casino and would be the popular choice, but the poll shows otherwise. A number of Londoners would prefer to see the casino up north than within the capital itself.
The 38 per cent of respondents who selected Blackpool as their resort of choice made it the clear favourite, ahead of Greenwich on 14 per cent and Manchester on ten per cent.
"Our heritage is in tourism and it is clear from the poll that the public want to come back to Blackpool.
"The casino will be the catalyst for that transformation," said Blackpool Council chief executive Steve Weaver, presenting the poll findings to the Casino Advisory Panel.
If chosen, Blackpool would garner up to three million annual visitors, along with 3,400 new job openings.
