Angelil confusion cleared up

2007-02-19 16:06:10

A recent mix-up regarding the gambling habits of Celine Dion's husband, Rene Angelil, has been resolved following new information provided by officials at Harrah's.

An interview with Harrah's executive Jan Jones conducted by the Observer newspaper last month saw Ms Jones claim that Mr Angelil gambled around $1 million per week, alarming many observers.

However, with Mr Angelil's permission Harrah's has now announced that the figures quoted in the article were incorrect, and that Mr Angelil had in fact gambled $230,300 over the past two years.

Furthermore, the casino giant confirmed that such losses were compensated for by winnings in excess of that figure.

Mr Angelil's poker playing abilities have seen him qualify for tournaments such as the 2005 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Tournament of Champions. The event's $1 million prize was eventually won by Mike Matusow, who in turn was deposed by Mike Sexton's win at the 2006 event.
