European WSOP set for September

2007-02-27 16:39:59

The first ever European World Series of Poker (WSOP) competition will take place at three casinos in London this September, it has been announced.

Leicester Square, the Sportsman and Fifty have been chosen as venues for the event, which aims to present a different take on the annual Las Vegas extravaganza.

"This new tournament has been designed with European players in mind, but registrants from every country are welcome," said WSOP commissioner Jeffrey Pollack.

"We hope it becomes an annual tradition for poker enthusiasts and a home for WSOP fans after the action concludes in Las Vegas each summer.

"This is the first time bracelet events will be awarded outside of Las Vegas. The World Series of Poker Europe will have a unique identity, style and flair, but will remain true to the 38-year tradition and heritage of the WSOP."

Last year WSOP brand owner Harrah's purchased the London Clubs group which currently owns six casinos around the UK.
