A ban on broadcast advertising for casino and gambling sites and services in the UK is to be lifted, it has been announced.
New guidelines to be put in place as part of September's Gambling Act will see betting shops, online gambling sites and casinos all able to advertise on UK television, radio and other media &ndash a luxury currently only available to the National Lottery.
Adverts will have to ensure that they do not advocate irresponsible gambling or target children, with no adverts being able to be run during programmes targeted at under 18s, and no actors who look under the age of 25 able to appear in the ads.
"These changes to gambling regulation mark a significant milestone in the way betting and gaming can be advertised in the UK," secretary of the Committee of Advertising Practice and the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice Roger Wisby commented.
"Although advertisers will enjoy more freedom to advertise their services across media, the public can be confident that they will do so within a stringent framework," he added.
The Gambling Act was passed in 2005 and will see a number of casinos being set up around the country in coming years.
