National conference to discuss UK casinos

2007-03-14 17:12:52

Discussions regarding the potential impact of the series of new casinos set to be built across the UK are set to take place at a national conference in Devon this week.

The impact of 16 new casinos will be built, with council officials from 11 local authorities meeting to discuss how to go about implementing the new structures.

Organised by Torbay Council, which has itself been approved as a casino location and is consequently looking for an appropriate site, the event will feature a speech from gambling and casino expert Professor Peter Collings, the BBC reports.

Further examples of the best decisions to be taken will be shared during the conference, with councils providing details of their own experiences and regional developments.

"In Torquay we're trying to recreate that 'Riviera' feel and we've got to make sure people come here, who might otherwise go and spend their money on cruise ships," said Torbay mayor Nick Bye, speaking to the BBC at the time of the allocation of casino sites in January.
