Glasgow, an unsuccessful applicant in its bid to be chosen as a location for the UK's sole super-casino, spent far less than its rivals on campaigning for the award, it has been revealed.
Manchester, which was eventually awarded the casino, spent £150,000, figures presented to a Parliamentary committee show, while Blackpool residents are likely to feel even more aggrieved over their area's failure to win following a £200,000 campaign.
In comparison Glasgow spent just £50,000, yet was still considered to be one of the favourites for the award.
The city was marked down for supposed lack of public support, a fact that Glasgow City Council disputed in its feedback to the committee, the Scotsman newspaper has revealed.
Meanwhile, the land originally designated as a potential super-casino site will be redeveloped into a multi-purpose site that, while not ruling out the possibility of a casino in the future, will nonetheless host a £66 million Scottish National Arena.
