London is fighting back in an attempt to lead the way in UK gambling with the launch of Casino At The Empire to rival the planned super-casino in Manchester.
Manchester fought off competition that included the Millennium Dome to provide the sight of the UK's only Las Vegas style super-casino, but the capital's residents and visitors will not be without their own glamorousattraction, thanks to the redevelopment of Leicester Square's Empire cinema.
The building, once also home to the Empire Ballroom, is located in the heart of London and, according to the Evening Standard, £16 million has been used to transform it into a casino and entertainment centre.
The main casino floor will house 30 gaming tables, electronic gaming machines and a private poker room that houses its own bar.
Aside from gaming, Casino At The Empire will sport two restaurants - a grill room and a noodle bar - a VIP room and a members lounge with dance floor.
A spokesperson for the project, which will open in May, said: "It will be a welcome addition to the West End, which has never seen an opening on such a scale before."
