Legal action threatened over Blackpool casino ad

2007-04-05 17:01:57

Liberal Democrat representatives in Blackpool are considering legal action after claiming that their names were erroneously attached to an anti-casino advert, it has been revealed.

The Blackpool Gazette has reported that Steven Bate, Jon Bamborough and Doreen Holt all say that they did not give their backing to the advert despite it being signed with their names.

The ad appeared in national newspapers last week ahead of Parliament's vote on the location of the super-casino.

Noble organisation representatives, who contributed to the funding of the advert, say that they believed the politicians had agreed to being named.

Noble are against Blackpool's super-casino bid because they want to open a smaller venue of their own in the area, according to the Blackpool Gazette.

"They were angry about it &ndash Mrs Holt in particular because she is Blackpool born and bred and would not do anything to go against the town," Blackpool Lib Dem leader Robert Wynne told the paper.

Blackpool originally missed out on the chance to build the super-casino, a controversial decision awarding the project to Manchester instead.
