Anti-UIGEA petition aiming for 10,000 signatures

2007-05-11 17:36:08

An online movement aimed at repealing the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) has said that it is aiming to have 10,000 signatures.

Organised by Casino Gambling Web, the petition currently has 4,000 names attached, of which 2,000 were signed in the first week. Around 3,500 are from American citizens.

Upon reaching the 10,000 landmark the list will be taken to Washington DC and handed to gambling regulation advocates Barney Frank and Shelley Berkley.

"We need to get the petition to the 10,000 mark in order to have the representatives take it seriously. You don't have to believe it will make a difference to sign it, you just have to believe in what it says," commented the website's CEO Gordon Price.

"We have reports of over five hundred calls being made to representatives, but we need a great deal more than that to show our dissent for this irresponsible law," Mr Price added.

The petition would be well served enlisting the help of the Poker Players Alliance, which is on course to break the 500,000 membership mark later this month.
