The number of Brits using remote devices to make a bet rose in May, new research has revealed.

According to the Gambling Commission, 8.6 per cent of adults had taken part in at least one type of remote gambling in May, a rise of 1.2 per cent compared to the same time last year.

Almost seven per cent of respondents said they had gambled via a laptop, computer or handheld advice in May, up from the 5.2 per cent recorded in last year's survey.

Placing a bet via a mobile also rose in May, with nearly three per cent of adults stating that they had used their phone as a gambling tool at least once that month.

At the same time, interactive gambling through a digital television had also increased - by 0.1 per cent.

The National Lottery and online poker are the most popular methods of gambling in the UK, according to the commission.
