World's 'smallest independent state' opens offshore casino

The Principality of Sealand has announced the opening of Sealandcasino.com, the first online casino to be launched on the world's smallest state.

Situated ten km off the coast of Suffolk, Sealand is offering all players tax-free winnings from the casino.

Since 1967, the state, which is a micronation based on a former sea fort, has been occupied by associates and family of Paddy Roy Bates, a former British Army major who claims Sealand is a sovereign and independent state.

This is despite the fact that court rulings in both Europe and the US have claimed that it is the property of the UK.

Regardless of Sealand's status, the principality is offering to match 100 per cent of all first deposits or provide new players with a £100 sign-up bonus.

Sealand Casino features over 300 games, including fifteen progressive jackpots, currently rising to over £2 million in value.
