Counterfeit spenders indicted after casino spree

2007-08-16 12:05:04

A couple in the US have been formally accused of spending thousands of fake dollars in a Las Vegas casino over a four-day period.

Chen Chiang Liu and Min Li Liu have been charged with feeding counterfeit hundred-dollar bills at a total value of $60,000 (£30,000) into slot machines at Caesars Palace casino.

But by playing with their rewards cards, enabling them to collect points, the couple left traces of their identity, which investigators could use to work out the identity of the culprits.

Once security officials at the casino had discovered the scam they prevented the Lius from leaving on July 30th.

Douglas Florence, vice president of the International Masters of Gaming Law, told CBS: "With today's technology, we have the ability to associate a person to a transaction.

"Whether that person has a name or not, it gives us that first clue."

Several bags of counterfeit hundred dollar notes to the tune of $30,000 were also discovered in the couple's car
