University offers hands-on gambling course

2007-08-20 11:54:46

A Greater Manchester university is offering hands-on courses aimed at giving students experience in the gambling industry.

Students due to start their studies in the autumn can now study gambling at the University of Salford, which teaches and undertakes research in partnership with the gaming industry.

Up to 20 places are available for those who are eager to lawn about managing successful gambling ventures.

James Mulkeen, a spokesman for the university's business school, told the Salford Advertiser that students will "get specific job experience and further training on gambling laws and how the industry works".

"It's not teaching people how to be gamblers but about how to run a busy and successful entertainment centre," he added.

Earlier this year Greater Manchester was awarded a licence to build Britain's first US-style supercasino but the plan are now on hold pending a government review.
