Aspers to advertise on TV under new laws

2007-08-29 14:23:41

British casino operator Aspers is launching its first television advertising campaign on September 1st, it has been announced.

Under the 2005 Gambling Act, which comes into force on Saturday, casinos will be able to advertise their wares on UK television after the 21:00 watershed.

The campaign will have its debut on ITV Wales and Tyne Tees during the first commercial break.

As reported by mad.co.uk, Damian Aspinall, chairman of Aspers, said: "We want viewers to be aware of the full range of facilities that we offer.

"[We] are glad that we can now compete on a level playing field with the offshore online gaming businesses that been advertising in the UK for years."

Earlier this month culture secretary James Purnell worked with the gaming industry to establish a code of conduct and one of the conditions was the watershed.

However, he agreed that sporting events which are screened earlier in the day would be exempted from this condition.
