Aspers' Swansea casino nears completion

2007-08-30 15:17:12

Architects and designers from Down Under are applying the finishing touches to a new Aspers casino in Swansea.

Melbourne-based Bates Smart has overseen the architectural design of the casino for almost two years and a team has flown over to Britain to check everything is in order before opening, the Western Mail has reported.

Polly Gee, project leader for Bates Smart in Swansea, told the paper: "Our brief was to create a bespoke casino for Aspers that would raise the bar in the UK in terms of casinos."

She said the £30 million Aspers casino has been built to the same standards that are common in Australia and Asia, where Bates Smart has overseen several casino projects.

A spokesman for Aspers said that the casino company has established itself as a major employer in Swansea, with almost 200 new positions created for local people.

Earlier this week, Aspers announced it would be the first to advertise on British television on September 1st under the new 2005 Gambling Act.
