Scottish taxpayers 'face £50,000 casino bill'

2007-08-31 16:31:30

Edinburgh could be facing a £50,000 legal bill, after attempting to block plans for a casino

Licensing chiefs have refused permission three times for Grosvenor to build a casino on the site of the former Palais de Danse in Fountainbridge.

But when rival operator Stanley was granted permission to build a casino in nearby Fountain Park, Grosvenor launched an appeal. A judge recommended that the licensing body take another look at the application.

A city council spokeswoman told the Scotsman that the costs involved are still being calculated.

"The new board will consider the application on its merits, which is the same basis as the previous board, at their meeting on Monday."

According to Gamingfloor.com, there are around a dozen casinos in Scotland, concentrated in four locations – Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
