New Swansea casino to open with much fanfare

2007-09-06 15:32:35

A new £13 million casino in Swansea is due to open tonight and the first night party is expected to attract sports figures, celebrities and maybe some Welsh politicians.

Guests will be greeted by spotlights, a 10-metre red carpet and seven-foot flames and will be entertained by X Factor star Ray Quinn, who will be singing Rat Pack favourites.

Quinn told the South Wales Evening Post: "I am really looking forward to singing at the new Aspers casino opening and giving Swansea a night to remember.

"Aspers looks like a fantastic venue and it's great to see a bit of old-time glamour making its way back onto the entertainment scene in Wales."

As well as gambling facilities, the Aspers casino in Salubrious Place includes a restaurant, a beauty parlour, three bars and an entertainments area.

The casino, the biggest in Wales, has said it expects to attract 10,000 people a week, with more than £4 million spent on gambling in the next 12 months.
