A report by the Gambling Commission could play a key part in Manchester's future as a gambling destination, it has been claimed.
According to the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the fact that the report said problem gambling had not worsened since the end of the last decade is good news for Manchester.
It means that the prime minister's concerns that a supercasino in one of Manchester's poorer areas would lead to social breakdown is not supported by the evidence.
Chamber spokeswoman Angie Robinson told the Manchester Evening News: "[The] strength of the Manchester bid was the element relating to the prevention and support of problem gambling.
"In fact, it's fair to say that of all the bids Manchester was the strongest on this count as well as in other key elements."
She went on to say that the creation of supercasino would bring investment to a deprived area and promised that the Manchester Chamber would continue its support for the project.
Manchester City Council wants to build Britain's first casino in east Manchester, near Sports City.
