New survey shows UK gambling levels not rising

2007-10-10 15:13:47

The British Gambling Prevalence Survey 2007 has shown that levels of UK gambling are not on the increase.

According to EditorsChoice, many had predicted that the survey would show a huge rise in gambling levels because of many press stories over the last few years which were to do with the online gambling industry.

The report found that 68 per cent of the population (32 million adults) had taken part in gambling activity over the last year.

In a report conducted in 1999, the number was higher at 72 per cent (33 million adults).

Accounting for the difference, the report refers to the national lottery, which has seen a decrease in participation from 11 million to ten million people over the past eight years.

The survey found the Lottery to be the most popular form of gambling, making up 57 per cent of all gambling activity.

Six per cent of respondents took part in gambling online.
