2008 Irish Poker Championship Announced

2007-10-12 11:27:37

The 2008 Irish Poker Championship (IPC) has been announced by pokerevents.ie.

Galway will host the annual event for the first time with the Radisson SAS hotel doing the honours.

Organisers expect to attract around 400 people for the event which will be shown on Ireland's national broadcaster, RTE.

The buy-in for the tournament is €2,000 (£1,398) and it will take place between January 3rd and January 6th.

It is the third-ever IPC with the previous two tournaments being held in Dublin.

John Clancy won last year's event, besting 314 players to take home the grand prize of €114,000.

Event organisers said: "The venue is great, overlooking Galway Bay and is sure to make for a fantastic weekend of quality poker and fun in a unique Irish atmosphere."

According to pokerevents.ie, IPC is the first major European poker championship of the year.
