Preston could get first casino

2007-10-22 11:07:30

A plan is currently being discussed which could see Preston get its first casino, it has been reported.

The Lancashire Evening Post revealed that Steve Jackson, an entrepreneur, is trying to turn the city's old Fives building into a gambling establishment.

"I think everyone would like to see a casino in Preston and it is something that people have been dreaming of ever since it won city status," he said.

He added that the old Fives building is "the only" place capable of housing a casino because of where it is in the city's centre.

The plan is to spread the casino out over four floors. Council members seem receptive to the idea, providing the casino has permission from the government.

Steve Jackson used to be on the board of Preston North End football club and announced he was to sell his remaining 6.53 per cent stake in July.
