Casino fight in Bournemouth

2007-11-16 17:09:48

A row has erupted in Bournemouth over an application to build a casino directly across the road from another one.

The bid to redevelop an old ice rink was a "surprise" - according to the Dorset Echo - and councillors in the area are doing their best to stop the plans from going ahead.

One councillor opposed, Stephen MacLoughlin, did admit, however, that "to have a casino there would be good in terms of use of space".

It is thought by some that the gambling license bid is connected to property owned by Luminar Leisure, who already have permission to build bars and nightclubs on the site.

Luminar claims on it's website: "We run entertaining, popular venues where people can meet, eat, drink and dance.

It also says that it does so carefully and "responsibly". The firm owns the famous Liquid chain of nightclubs.
