Blears refuses to support or reject supercasino

Salford MP and local government secretary Hazel Blears is keeping tight-lipped over the future of the supercasino in the UK.

She is refusing to say whether she still supports the project, which was thrown out by the House of Lords and then dismissed by Gordon Brown, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Ms Blears is leading an east Manchester regeneration taskforce which will produce a review in the next few weeks outlining the pros and cons of a supercasino in the city.

When asked for her opinion about the casino, Ms Blears refused to be drawn on the subject.

"The prime minister has asked my department to look at ways of continuing the regeneration of east Manchester, especially at how to create more jobs for local people," she told the newspaper.

Manchester City Council has suggested it would seek a judicial review if the supercasino plan does not get the green light from the government.
