Plans for casino in north Wales

2007-12-19 12:41:26

Plans are being put in place for a new casino in north Wales - that is if the government agrees to expand the number of gaming licenses, it has been reported.

Local paper the Daily Post says that Stephanie Booth, the millionaire hotelier, wishes to set up a full-time casino at the Bryn Howell Hotel in Llangowen.

Ms Booth said: "Llangollen attracts over four million visitors a year and is only an hour's drive from major conurbations in the north-west and west-midlands, so has the makings of an ideal location for licensing a small casino."

She has run a 'fun casino' at the location before, which has proven to be a success.

The government agree to issue 17 casino licenses in 2007, with eight 'small' ones, eight 'large' ones and a supercasino distributed across the country.

Ms Booth's proposal may face a hard time of getting a license, with prime minister Gordon Brown not appearing to be particularly keen on casinos, as his halting of Manchester's supercasino demonstrated.
