Tropicana 'may avoid bankruptcy'

2007-12-20 15:24:05

It was feared that Tropicana Casinos and Resorts would have to declare itself bankrupt as it announced its desire to sell three casinos earlier in the week. However, it has been reported that this may not be the case.

A deal could be on the cards, according to the Associated Press, that would see the company's casinos outside New Jersey remain unharmed by its problems in the state.

Gary S Stein, who has been acting as a trustee for the business, said: "They've put in place proposals that they hope will be accepted (Thursday).

"Everyone is interested in having this casino operate profitably and be attractive to potential buyers."

Tropicana runs a casino in Las Vegas among others and is a subsidiary of Columbia Sussex, which owns over a dozen casinos around the US. One of the three casinos that the company proposed selling is the Casino Aztar in Evansville, Indiana.
