UK's online casinos 'moving abroad'

2008-01-02 13:04:38

Online casinos from the UK are frequently moving their businesses abroad because it is cheaper from a tax perspective, a website has said.

Discussing a trend of internet gaming operations switching to the likes of Gibraltar and Alderney, where they can avoid the UK's 15 per cent gambling tax, CasinoTimes.co.uk suggested that it is giving the government a bad image.

"It doesn't look good for the government," it said.

"Brits are huge fans of online casinos and poker, which is why the government chose to regulate […] But it seems they may have been too greedy and so will end up losing out."

In other UK casino-related news, Poju Zabludowicz - head of the Tamares Group - has been revealed as making donations to the Conservative party, according to the Sunday Times.

The Tamares Group owns the Plaza Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas among other gaming operations.
