Poker "has an appeal that transcends every geo-political boundary"

2008-01-18 10:16:10

Poker is popular among people of all nations, races and all different classes of society, it has been argued.

According to the UK Casino Times, the card game "has an appeal that transcends every geo-political boundary" and one of the main reasons for this is online poker.

"With the arrival of internet to govern our modern lives, online poker has gained recognition to the extent that traditional poker could not possibly claim for itself," the publication stated.

It quoted figures saying that 50 million US citizens referred to poker as their favourite sport, something that the website claims is seen in a number of other countries around the world.

Perhaps an example of how poker can appeal to different groups can be seen in two tournaments taking place at the moment.

The Aussie Millions in Melbourne is attracting record numbers, including celebrities and some big names from the poker world. In Canada, the Canadian College Poker Championship is just getting underway.
