Bournemouth Pavilion to get casino

2008-01-24 14:45:42

The redevelopment of Bournemouth's Pavilion and the surrounding area is to include a casino, it has been revealed.

Operated by Aspers - which runs a casino at The Gate in Newcastle - the new gambling venue will sit alongside restaurants, an amphitheatre and public gardens at the Bath Road site, according to the Dorset Echo.

It will be part of the £59 million proposals from the council and developer Trevor Osborne.

"I designed this as absolutely relevant to Bournemouth. It's not an anywhere facility," Mr Osborne said of the English Heritage-supported scheme.

"What we're going to have is a double wow. It will be great."

Aspers is a company owned jointly by the Aspinall Group and the Packer Organisation. It promises that its casinos stay clear of the Las Vegas style and instead provide venues that local people can be proud to have in their community.
