Casinos in the UK could soon feature intranet poker if a new system manages to take off.
The World Series of Poker Peer to Peer Texas Hold'em computer game has had a commercial version approved by Gaming Laboratories International (GLI's), meaning that internet-style poker play may be in casinos in the near future, according to Card Player.
Players would sit at terminals in the casino and play live-opponents based anywhere in the world.
GLI's approval is an important step for the Progressive Gaming International (PGI) game, as it is one of the US's top regulatory testing centres for casino games and is used by the state of Nevada.
Describing the intranet poker, PGI said it features "cashless account-based wagering, the option to play multiple tables/tournaments at the same time, the ability for a player to view their account history, a summary of recently-played games and even a statistical breakdown of their play".
PGI has been in the casino industry since 1986, starting off manufacturing slot machines and eventually evolving to the production management systems.
