Supercasino talks "productive"

2008-02-01 11:50:46

A meeting between Manchester council and a group of MPs, which discussed the stalled supercasino at Beswick, went well, according to one of the men in attendance.

Sir Richard Leese, the leader of the council, implied he was confident that the regeneration of the area would still happen, the Manchester Evening News reported.

"The talks were productive. We discussed a range of proposals that would all bring a mixture of jobs and training to Manchester and east Manchester in particular," he said.

Sir Richard did not say, however, whether the casino is any closer to going ahead.

The MPs in attendance were Tony Lloyd, Graham Stringer and Paul Goggins, all of whom have constituencies in the Manchester area. None of them commented on the nature of the meeting.

Elsewhere in the UK, local newspaper the Citizen reported that the fight for Blackpool's casino is set to continue.
