Manchester's supercasino plans will be officially binned later today, a report has suggested.
Following a last ditch effort from the local council and MPs, it had been implied the gambling venue may still go ahead.
However, according to the Press Association, this is now extremely unlikely and culture secretary Andy Burnham is expected to confirm the government's decision this afternoon.
In his announcement, the MP will likely OK the building of 16 large regional casinos, which were to be developed alongside the supercasino in the initial proposals.
It became clear Manchester had lost its fight for the supercasino yesterday, when the Times reported the council was planning to sue the government.
Salford MP Hazel Blears is in charge of finding alternative ways for regenerating east Manchester and will be under pressure to match the 3,000 new jobs which the supercasino was predicted to create.
