Gamblers 'need to be careful with their winnings'

2008-04-10 16:43:13

Gamblers who have won a large amount of money at a casino should not carry it with them when they leave.

At least this is the opinion of Doyle Brunson, the legendary poker player, who wrote in his blog that there is too high a risk of getting robbed.

"Leave your money in the casino - either in a lock box or put it on deposit. In the old days we didn't have that option out on the road, but in today's environment it is silly to take a chance and carry a lot of money in your pocket," he remarked.

Brunson explained that he had been robbed and followed on several occasions in the past and stated that the recent mugging of Jason Potter outside the Aussie Millions "should be a lesson for all us poker players".

Potter lost the $30,000 he had won inside the casino because he had been carrying it with him. Had the same thing happened to main event winner Alexander Kostritsyn, the robbers would have walked away with more than $1.5 million.
