Williams 'wishes he could be in Las Vegas'

2008-04-18 14:36:44

Two-time world snooker champion Mark Williams has claimed he would love to be in Las Vegas right now for Joe Calzaghe's fight with Bernard Hopkins this weekend.

However, Williams's attraction to the Nevada gaming capital is based on more than just boxing, as he told BBC Sport

"I'd have loved Vegas as well, I haven't been there but I know Vegas and I would have got on famously," he remarked.

He commented on his enthusiasm for poker, which has seen him play in numerous tournaments over the years, including the Welsh Masters and two series of Celebrity Poker Club.

"I'm into poker in a big way so Vegas is the Mecca for me," he said.

Williams cannot travel across the Atlantic for Saturday's fight because he is taking part in the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

The Welshman is expected by the bookies to easily win his opening match with Mark Davis.
