Wallace 'a croupier and card sharp' before music career

2008-05-02 16:41:28

Barry Wallace has revealed he worked as both a croupier and a card sharp prior to making it big as bassist in The Fratellis.

Speaking to the Edinburgh Evening News prior to his band's performance in the city, the 29-year-old said the casino jobs were some of the many he had before being signed to a record label in 2005.

"I've had more jobs than I can remember," the rock star remarked.

Wallace did not say how long he spent in either of the jobs, nor did he comment on whether he won much money during his gambling days, although he implied these careers did not last for long as he went for a position at Tesco just a month before his band made it big.

Numerous musicians have been linked with gambling over the years, including Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, who has a contract with well-known internet poker site.
