It is safe for gamblers to wager money at online betting shops, poker sites and casinos.
At least this is the opinion of Brian Wright, who claimed consumers have nothing to worry about in terms of fraud and that they are increasingly beginning to realize this.
The Remote Gambling Association director said that online gaming "is a growing market" because it is convenient - and suggested that the easing of safety concerns was having an impact too.
"There are no security problems that people choosing to gamble online need to be concerned about," he explained.
Mr Wright said that at first people were worried about how secure their details would be on the internet but have quickly learned that it is just as safe as many other mediums.
Only betting shops have a greater amount of gambling activity than the internet, which accounts for more than 14 per cent of all UK gaming activity, according to GamCare statistics from 2006.
