Genting Stanley to develop Birmingham casino

2008-06-04 15:32:42

One the UK's biggest gaming operators Genting Stanley is to develop a new casino in Birmingham worth £90 million, it has been revealed.

Situated at the National Exhibition Centre, the resort will include a hotel and spa alongside the gambling facilities, Reuters reports.

Genting Stanley is a subsidiary of Malaysian casino operator Genting Group.

It was created when Genting purchased Stanley Leisure in 2006 for £639 million.

The company runs more than 40 casinos across the country under the Mint, Circus, Maxims and Crockfords brands.

It is not known under which monicker the new resort will be marketed although it has been suggested that it might take a few years to be built.

Genting claims its earnings for 2008 are unlikely to be affected by the new project.

As well as Genting Stanley, the Malaysian firm also has a stake in Rank Group, which owns the Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo chains.
