Huddersfield casino plans unveiled

2008-07-01 14:41:54

Developers have proposed building a new casino in Huddersfield as part of a £100 million project situated outside the town's Galpharm Stadium.

The Huddersfield Daily Examiner reports that the gambling venue will sit alongside concert facilities, pool and bingo halls, nightclubs and a casino if the plans are approved.

It is not known which company would operate the gaming location, although Grosvenor Casinos does already have a presence in the area.

Ralph Rimmer, managing director of the stadium and one of the men behind the proposal, remarked: "This is an attempt to bring in new and interesting things to the town.

"We have tried to be innovative and make it an attractive proposition for everyone."

It is thought that more than 720 jobs would be created by the complex, which Mr Rimmer hopes will satisfy the council's desire to entice local people to stay in the area for their entertainment needs, rather than head to nearby Leeds or Manchester.
