Poker in the Park attracts 'impressive numbers'

2008-08-19 15:00:21

London's Poker in the Park (PITP) event last week was a big hit in terms of numbers, if two of its attendees are to be believed.

Ian Thompson of Fox Poker Club and amateur player Uzman Shar both commented on the larger-than-expected crowds of people who turned up to partake in the card-playing festivities.

Referring to where PITP was situated, just outside The Casino at the Empire building, Mr Thompson remarked: "I expected Leicester Square to be full of tourists, walking through, so I am very surprised about the level of interest."

Mr Shar also expressed his shock at the thousands in attendance, claiming to be "really, really impressed" by the size of the occasion.

PITP was organised by Bluff Europe magazine, one of the biggest poker publications in the world.

In Mr Shar's opinion, the event certainly helped to get people interested in the sport, as many were attracted by the availability of free competitions.
