The Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino in the Chinese administrative district of Macau laid on a cocktail party yesterday as a precursor to the second stage of the Asian Poker Tour (APT).
Legendary card sharp Doyle Brunson was at the event, along with Chris Parker, chief executive of the APT, the Tour's official website reports.
Following the drinks, Mr Parker cut the ribbon to get the competition underway.
The StarWorld is owned by the Galaxy Entertainment Group, one of the biggest players in the burgeoning Macau casino industry.
A new venue, dubbed the GalaxyWorld Resort, is currently being built by the company on the Cotai Strip and will sit close to other Galaxy-operated properties including the Grand Waldo Hotel.
Other events which have taken place at the StarWorld in the run up to the APT Macau event were a charity poker competition - won by Quinn Do - and a Brunson book-signing session.
