Change in fortune for Ashley at casino

2008-09-01 14:56:31

Mike Ashley's alleged recent performance at a casino appeared to mirror the on-pitch fortunes of his football club Newcastle United.

A source told the Daily Star that the billionaire lost £5 million in just one night at the Fifty casino in Mayfair, London.

The report comes after Newcastle's 3-0 thrashing away at Arsenal on Saturday.

Referring to Ashley's recent winning streak, which including a £1.3 million windfall on one spin of the roulette wheel earlier this year, the insider commented: "Lady Luck can be fickle but this was something else."

Ashley is one of a number of high-profile celebrities who apparently enjoy the gaming on offer in London.

Rapper Jay-Z revealed in an interview with Time Out magazine that England's capital is among his favourite places to gamble.

According a report from MediaTakeOut.com in January, the music mogul is no stranger to big losses himself.

He allegedly lost $500,000 in just one hand playing poker in Las Vegas.
