UK poker tours 'doing well'

2008-09-02 16:33:25

While the World Poker Tour (WPT) is experiencing dwindling player numbers in the US, two competition series in the UK are booming, it has been suggested.

PokerPlayer Magazine's editor-in-chief Dave Woods implied that the decline in field sizes on the WPT is not a sign that such a trend is going to emerge in the British Isles.

Indeed, "the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour and the Gala Casinos British Poker tour have both been doing really good numbers", he said.

As well as this, Mr Woods remarked that the European Poker Tour, which will hit London in just a few weeks time, is "the big success story at the moment" and has proven to be extremely popular with players over the last few years.

Prior to the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP), many experts were claiming that the sport of poker was in decline.

However, the WSOP boasted record numbers and was considered to be a huge success by those involved in the industry.
