Liverpool casino raided

2008-09-08 16:58:15

A masked gang raided a Liverpool casino in the early hours of this morning (September 8th), it has been reported.

The robbers hit Leo Casino, at the city's Queen's Dock, after it had closed at 6am, according to the Liverpool Echo.

After making their way into the casino by smashing one of its glass doors at the front of the building, three men wearing balaclavas threatened staff with an iron bar before making off with a "substantial sum of cash from the night's takings", the publication detailed.

The newspaper reported the men escaped in a dark grey Volvo V50, which was found dumped just over an hour later in Toxteth Street, Toxteth.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the getaway car either before or after the raid at the casino on Chaloner Street.

Meanwhile in other news, Dublin was awarded the title of European Poker Capital 2008 by Bluff European magazine, beating last year's winner, London, to the title.
