Top chef "cooking up a storm" at Leeds casino

2008-09-10 14:09:50

The new Alea Casino Leeds, which is set to open on Friday, has attracted a top Michelin-starred chef.

Vineet Bhatia, who runs the acclaimed Rasoi in London, was at the venue "cooking up a storm" earlier this week, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

There are two restaurants at the four-floor Clarence Dock site and its director Andy Orr claimed Alea will be "offering an entirely new entertainment experience".

The presence of Bhatia at the £13 million venue would appear to demonstrate the growing importance of fine dining to the casino industry.

Earlier this year, Genting Stanley, one of the UK's largest gaming operators, commissioned TV chef Jean-Christophe Novelli to design its new food menu.

This report was followed by the announcement that Gordon Ramsay is to open an eatery at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Sydney.

Alea is operated by London Clubs International and a big party is planned for Friday to celebrate its launch.
