Sebastian Ruthenberg wins EPT Barcelona

2008-09-15 18:09:03

Sebastian Ruthenberg has emerged as the champion at this year's European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona.

The 24-year-old PokerStars-sponsored player defeated a total of 618 competitors at the event, taking home a 1.36 million euro (£1.08 million) prize.

On September 14th, he started the final table as chip leader, eventually beating Fintan Gavin from Galway, Ireland in the battle.

Ruthenberg joined the PokerStars ShootingStars team earlier in 2008. In June, he won a World Series of Poker bracelet during the Seven Card Stud Hi-low championship event.

According to EuropeanPokerTour.com, the total prize pool at EPT Barcelona was 4.95 million euros. Competitors at the event included Spanish tennis player Sergi Bruguera, as well as National Hockey League player Mats Sundin, formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Ice hockey website BleacherReport.com cited a recent interview with Sundin in which he announced he would donate 100 per cent of the money he earned playing poker to charity.
