EPT London attendance record shattered

2008-10-03 12:09:58

A total of 309 card sharps turned up to take part on day 1b of the Europe Poker Tour (EPT) London event.

This took the number of overall participants up to 598, eclipsing last year's attendance figures by more than 200, Card Player reports.

As such, the prize fund is worth in excess of £3 million.

Among the big names taking part on day 1b were Greg Raymer, Erik Seidel, Chris Moneymaker, Phil Ivey and Barry Greenstein.

Of these, Seidel, Ivey and Greenstein were all looking to achieve poker's Triple Crown by adding an EPT title to their World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour accolades.

Gavin Griffin is the only player on the planet to have managed the feat so far.

Erik Sjodin finished the day with the chip lead and the tournament will resume later on Friday, with the 84 surviving players from day 1b set to join up with the 77 remaining competitors from day 1a.
