Planners recommend Lancaster casino

2008-10-06 12:16:53

Planners have recommended that Lancaster city council approves a proposal to build a casino on Morcambe Road, it has been reported.

Developers wish to set up a gambling venue over two floors at the currently empty office block Riversway House, according to the BBC.

Several groups have objected to having a casino in the area, but the police are not among them and planning officials appear not to think there are any valid arguments against the gaming site.

Should the casino go ahead, it could create as many as 30 new jobs, the developer has suggested.

The north-west has dominated news about the UK casino industry in recent years due to the supercasino debacle.

Manchester won the bid to build the UK's biggest gaming venue ahead of favourites Blackpool and London, but was later told by the government that it would not be allowed to go forward with the development, resulting in controversy.
